Notes: Catch and Release
Waters controlled by the association include large stretches of the River Fane.
All of the Castletown (including the Kilcurry and Forkhill tributaries) and Flurry Rivers as far as the border with Northern Ireland.
Catchment areas for these rivers are within counties Louth, Monaghan, Armagh (Provinces Leinster and Ulster) with all entering into Dundalk Bay in the Irish Sea.
The Association was formally founded in 1926 but its history pre-dates this and is one of the oldest fishing clubs in Ireland and has enjoyed a long history of angling in the North Louth/Monaghan area and is now recognised as one of the most progressive clubs in the country.
Since its foundation the club has been stocking the waters of the region with trout (as can be seen from the pre World War 1 photo) and at one stage had its own hatcheries at Inniskeen on the river Fane and Toberona on the Castletown River.
Annual competitions have been taken place since its inception and have been great sporting and social gatherings for the anglers of the region.
Opened in 2001 with grant aid from the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board (now IFI) and the premises provided by Local County Council our Clubhouse situated on the banks of the Castletown River has turned out to be a great asset for meetings and organising our various outings and venues.
The vibrant nature of the club owes it strength to the present and past generations of dedicated members who voluntarily give off their time and experience to preserve and enhance the quality of fishing for present and future generations of anglers.
Water controlled by the Association on the River Fane, Brown Trout under 11 inches (28cm) and over 14 inches (36cm) and Sea Trout under 12 inches (30cm) must be returned to the water.
Any member shall not by unnecessary wading, or other means, spoil the angling for another member.
All members are to see that gates are not left open, fences broken down or other property in any way damaged on the land where they fish.
Members of the association are not allowed to fish with more than one rod at a time.
Bag limit (daily) on all rivers is 2 fish. Members should familiarise themselves with state legislation regarding Salmon and Sea Trout fishing.
Any person fishing the rivers under control of the club can be challenged for proof of membership and bag limit.
Fishing season – 1st March to 12th October.
Badges must be visibly worn.
All work to be done on waters controlled by the association must be approved by the committee.
Fishing is prohibited from the weir at the bottom of Toberona Pool to the sea until the 31st May, each year.

The association shall not be responsible for any member being refused permission to fish by riparian owners.
